Quick & dirty tools “drawer”

Make a simple tools drawer from scrap wood and leftovers to easily organize tools you regularly use – or want to.

I recently realized that one of my (many) problems regarding workshop streamlining is that I usually do now have what I need as handy as I wish, leading to lots and lots of time spent searching – or using less appropriate tools because I simply do not find (or remember) the better suited ones.

I also realized that in some cases, lack of practice and experiences were the reason for me not using tools (even though this could be the other way around). I hope that by placing a tool in front of my nose I might be forced to use it more, or at least have an easier time finding it.

Basically I made a toned down version of a drawer – just a base with some runners. I used scrap pieces I have an abundance of, and a piece of particle board – not really scrap but a leftover from another project. Also, it works well with my recently made workbench, making use of a space hard to fill without resorting to pilebuilding.

Obviously the design is not anywhere near perfect, especially when it comes to protecting your tools from sawdust. But I imagine the advantage of having them easily reachable outweighs the need for having to dust them off every now and then, and I can put sensitive pieces into boxes, anyway.
